Rename4u is a simple application that allows you to tackle a hard task. Renaming files in Windows is perhaps the most stressing task that a user can endure. Without any help, the user has to select files individually and change their names after a combination of clicks or hotkeys. Rename4u makes this task considerably easier, by adding a search engine and a scripting environment for you to work on. The first and easiest way to rename files is to select them all (by selecting and entire folder or the files contained therein). But the application also allows you to create your own rules for renaming the files. The most useful one that I could find is the Search and Replace feature. By simply defining what to search and what to rename, you can rename files on your computer simultaneously, which is a terrific time-saver. For example, search for "PIC" and replace that "PIC" with "VACATION." The application will carry out that task for you throughout the system. You can also specify which extensions will be affected and which ones will be ignored. All in all, this free application has the potential to save you plenty if time, should you need to rename a bunch of files.
